Thoughts Of What To Do On Mother’s Day

When is Mothers Day?

America will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 8th, 2016.

Story Of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day started out from various religious and cultural origins in several different countries over hundreds of years before it started gaining traction in the U.S.A. between the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. It had been officially proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914 designating the second Sunday in May would be our recognized day to observe Mother’s Day in America, to demonstrate our love and respect for our mothers and also to fly the U.S. Flag.

Since its creation, Mother’s Day is now an officially recognized day in numerous other countries too, where it might fall on the same date every year, or calendared in association with another holiday like Easter or Lent.

What’s Mother’s Day?

So Why Do We Have Mother’s Day?

We commemorate Mother’s Day to acknowledge the contribution of Mothers and Mother figures to our society in general, and to each and every one of us individually, and also to personally honor them with our sentiments, to share our love and gratitude, and also to recognize their selfless sacrifices on our behalf with a gesture of appreciation and celebration.

What Do I Do For Mothers Day?

Primarily, allow it to be meaningful. Be it small or extravagant, material gifts, or service, or just spending a great visit together, make it a heart-felt expression of your affection to the distinctive person that your mother is.

What To Do For Mothers Day

Along with letting your own mother know that she is loved, it is also an occasion to reach out to others’ mothers also. Let your mother-in-law understand that she is loved and appreciated. Let your widowed landlord whose only child passed-away be aware that she is not forgotten. Go out to dinner with your sister who may have lost custody of her children in a difficult divorce. Perhaps two weeks before Mother’s Day you can contact the estranged child of a loved-one and give him a copy of Robert Munsch’s “Love you Forever” and convince him that it would not hurt to do a little something for his mom on this special day.

Whichever way you decide to celebrate Mother’s Day, truly the best possible result of our Mother’s Day observance is that something might grow inside each of us, that we will feel more, that we’ll have an increase in love, and that we are going to resolve to do more.
